Abstract

Introduction: Nurses working in hemodialysis units are constantly faced with stressful work conditions, a situation that can affect their physical and mental health. In many healthcare centers, the main focus is on patient care, while nurse care, especially from a psychological perspective, is given less attention. given the erosive nature of hemodialysis care, identifying factors that increase nurses' resilience is of particular importance. The present study aims to investigate the role of self-compassion as a facilitating factor in enhancing the level of hope, and to provide practical solutions to improve the quality of nurses' professional life. Material and methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 176 nurses working in hemodialysis departments of medical centers in Qazvin and Zanjan provinces (including Bu-Ali, Velayat, Razi, Alvand, Buyin-Zahra, and Takestan hospitals). Sampling was done using the convenience method. data collection tools included demographic information questionnaires, self-compassion scale, and Schneider life expectancy questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 23. Multiple regression model was used to examine the predictors of hope. Results: The results showed that the mean score of hope in hemodialysis nurses was 42.20 ± 5.07 and their mean self-compassion was 87.89 ± 10.13, both of which were estimated to be higher than the average level. Self-compassion had a positive and significant relationship with hope (r = 0.33, P 0.01). Also, the results of regression analysis showed that hope in female nurses was significantly higher than in males (B = -1.998, P = 0.008). with increasing age, hope decreased (B = -0.153, P = 0.026), and more work experience was associated with increased hope (B = 0.021, P = 0.001). IR.QUMS.REC.1402.026 Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, self-compassion as one of the effective psychological mechanisms can play an important role in increasing hope and consequently promoting resilience in nurses. although the relationship between self-compassion and life satisfaction has been examined to some extent in the research literature, the present study is one of the few studies that has purposefully analyzed this relationship in the occupational context of hemodialysis nurses. Designing and implementing educational interventions based on self-compassion can be considered as an effective strategy in improving nurses' mental health, quality of care, and reducing burnout.
