Abstract
Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in healthcare, enhancing diagnosis, treatment, and patient management. It plays a pivotal role in medical education by improving efficiency and accuracy. Medical students increasingly recognize AI’s potential to advance their clinical skills and future performance. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of general medical (MD) students at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences regarding AI applications in 2024. Methods and Materials: This descriptive cross-sectional study involved 331 general medical students at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, selected via convenience sampling. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and a knowledge, attitude, and practice questionnaire (Ahmed et al., 2022). Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 26, with Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests to examine differences. Results: Among the 331 participants, 154 (46.5%) were female, and 177 (53.5%) were male. The mean scores for knowledge, attitude, and practice were 3.15±1.69, 5.98±2.04, and 4.04±1.30, respectively, indicating a good level in all three domains. Knowledge was significantly higher in males (P=0.020) and correlated with academic level (P0.001). Attitude showed no significant association with demographic variables. Practice was significantly associated with academic level (P=0.004). Conclusion and Discussion: The findings indicate a favorable level of knowledge, attitude, and practice among medical students regarding AI applications. However, gender and academic-level differences in knowledge and practice highlight the need for targeted educational programs to address these gaps and enhance students’ readiness for AI integration in medicine.
